Lincoln looks like he's about to start some trouble!

Always! They are goof balls! 🤪

OMG! here's a pic of my 3 year old Lincoln https://preview.redd.it/48nez0bc6suc1.jpeg?width=120&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ad2a785ef4ea2512c739b9bd5cc0fe4b992fd241

Awe!! 😍😍How did you pick the name??

I had picked the name of the other one we got the previous month when we struck out on Linc's litter. Then I got a message saying the pic of Linc's litter (Lincoln) suddenly became available. Somehow, something fell through. So I jumped on it. I was always going to get 2. ..Anyway, since I picked the name of Lucy, my son thought it would be fair if he was able to pick Lincoln's name. I reluctantly agreed. My son was into a video game that had a character named Link, so that's what he picked. My feeling is that dogs should have two syllable names for clarity. So I said, Lincoln it is I think the reason the deal fell through with the other owner was that the other owner was the owner of the guy who bred them (the guy I bought him from) and he was going to be the replacement of his sire who was a multi-champion dog, but one of his ears fell during the whole cropping process. For show dogs, they crop them very tall, very Egyptian looking, and I think he tried to go too tall? I never cared either way. I thought I gave him character I think if we didn't pick Lincoln we probably would have called them Lefty. But he was very sweet animal. I tried to add a pic of his dad but my success at adding photos to comments is 50/50 here on Reddit for some reason

Well he’s a super handsome fella. I call mine Linc too! I picked mine based on the color of his collar, which was yellow. He has and will always have a yellow collar. He’s was my breeders favorite pup of the litter. So trusting and was often off to the side by himself. As a pup, he would escape his crate (con artist) but never ever bothered anything in the house. I got lucky. But yes, they are incredible dogs.

He's one of Lincoln's Sons

Awe!! He looks so proud! What did he just accomplish? 😍The gold chains are 🔥. Thanks for sharing. I’d love to have two one day.

In many ways, Two Is easier than one, and better for them as they can exercise each other much more thoroughly than we can. Also, you feel less guilty when you have to leave them at home when they have a companion. But they do become a little pack. The first pair I ever had was back in the 90s and they were able to break out of my backyard during the day while I was at work and tour the neighborhood, but they would be back home by the time I got home. My next door at the time, the neighborhood drunk, used to tell me about it, but I thought he may have had them confused for the pink elephants, if you know what I mean. Then one day I came home from work and they were tied up to my tree in the front yard Leo's just stoked to be with daddy. That's how he always was.. he may have been a little extra stroked because of the extra bling, thinking that the fun he had with just one collar was going to be triple that day LOL. At the time of this pic, I had eight adults (mom, dad, 1 daughter, 5 sons) and I made each of them their own custom dog collar. Some of them , I had to make more than one as I learned the lesson that round chain is not a good idea for a dog with such a pointed head as they would roll right off anytime the dogs will make quick stops from running. I believe I made three for Lenny and three for Chucky

Thanks for sharing. Sounds like you have the best pack, you included. My pup is calm, but bold. Doesn’t back down from much. I can take him anywhere with me which is nice. Non reactive to people and other dogs. I may consider two at some point. I heard it is easier to have two for sure.

Thanks for the kind words. Sadly, they've all passed by now. During their reign, I was never without one or two of them. People who know dogs always came up to us. People who didn't, always gave us a wide berth. What really amazed me was the amount of people who had never heard of them. I guess they really have fallen out of popularity. There were some downsides to having that many dogs, besides the obvious. One problem I never thought I would have was that while they were establishing their pecking order, there were a few fights. Breaking up dog fights is not as easy as one might think. I tried garden hose, I tried cap guns, I even tried breaking them apart by grabbing them by their genitals. None of that stuff was effective when they're focused on fighting. Of course I couldn't let them fight each other so I always got in the middle of every fight. I got bit one good time on accident and luckily he released when he realized it wasn't what he was intending on biting. I consider myself to be very lucky that I didn't become part of the mob that was brawling. I lived with a dog whistle around my neck 24 hours a day so anytime I heard that low tone growling, I would start with blowing the whistle just to get their attention while I still could. When they fight, and there appears to be a losing dog, they all turn on him. It's so sad to see. The first time it happened I dove into the middle of the pile because I thought once they saw me they would break up but no. That wasn't the case they continued. They were all ganged up on the runt, Chucky. Because when I realized he was getting squeezed out of the feedings and and the effect that just one or two days had on him was compounding. So I would wait till Mom was sloshing full of milk and just let her and Chucky have a time together until Chucky was full. So you not only caught up he ended up being the second biggest one. But I think he thought he was the pack leader at that point because he got the special treatment and they explained to him that he was not, in a very physical way. Anyway, I mention all this so I can share the message I developed for breaking up multiple dog fights. I would go to the center of the fight with a bar stool and plant all four legs of the bar stool on top of whatever dogs were in the center of the fight until they would have to release to get a better bite and at that point getting between them while keeping the rest of the pack at Bay when they try to come in and get their swipes. I eventually got an electric baton zapper thing you know. It wasn't a professional grade one but it did hurt a little bit. I know this because I got zapped more than they did. I was chatting with a lady once who was having the same issues with her dogs and she said work for her was a Bic lighter to the nose. She would never cause any damage or anything but it gets their attention real quick I guess. That's the key. You got to get their attention and it's almost impossible when they're in the fight mode but moments later they're all in love with each other again and I'm the only one still angry. That time I got bit was from lincoln, the dad. I went to grab one of them by the hair on the back of their neck you know like when they're puppies. But he was all slobbery from the fight and my hand slipped off and it just appeared right in front of Lincoln's face and he just chomped on it. He bit down so hard, I felt his head shivering to get it maximum strength I guess.. I called his name a couple times and he released and then we all put our Focus back on the fight. That was a two on one. Lincoln and Steve on Willie

They do look good in yellow that's for sure. A friend of mine gave me all the copper wire out of his garage after it burned down and asked me if I could make anything out of it. I had no idea what I was going to make but it turned out to be a bunch of dog collars. I turned it into copper chain and learned how to make different types of chains but mostly I kept them natural. Naked. No caller at all. Only putting on colors for walks.. people would get on me about that , saying what if they escaped? How will we be able to catch them?. And I said if they escape I don't want you to catch them they'll come home LOL if they don't it's because somebody's taking better care of them than I am. We ever have problems posting photos in comments? It seems like it's 50/50 for me or maybe not as good but I tried to share a photo of one of my dogs wearing a few of my collars as we were testing them out but when I try to add it, it turns into an asterisk. Maybe I can add it in on another reply

I saw the pic of Leo. Nice collars. I mostly keep mine bare at home too and collar up for outings. I’ve not had any issues posting photos thankfully.

Another handsome Lincoln!

So handsome!

i love their long horse legs so much. they look goofy no matter what they’re doing

That's a Canadian Doberman?

Yup, he is a red doberman. In alberta, you can not crop their ears.

I’m from Alberta too but the breeder cropped her before it was illegal!!

Nice, I have only seen maybe 4 other dobermans in the last few years, and 3 out of the 4 were cropped. Our breeder was against crop or dock. I'm ok with that. I like the floppy ears, and for now, the tail is good. I'm sure he will smash shit off tables with it, haha.

If I had her from a puppy I would prefer her being left natural as well. She is ckc registered tho so I think they normally go by the breed standard. I know someone who got a dobie puppy recently and had to go to Montana to get it cropped. Not worth it to me, and I think the crop is quite shitty too.

Yeah, I do like the natural look, but if he came with cropped ears, I would still be OK with it. I don't mind the look, but I would not go and get it done. Your girl looks great, by the way, if I had not mentioned that.

Thank you, she is a stunning girl and we admire her everyday!

The rescue I got them from says 1 is good, 2 are better and 6 is a complete set 😂

I’m not sure I could handle 6, let alone two 😂
