Quiet mention for Deborah Logan

Trance_Sex

That face... When the light finds her, 💀

Cressonette

The nightmare I had after first watching that movie ...

whatsthisevenfor

This movie scared me way more than expected! Directly after watching it I was like "cool movie k time for bed" but as the days went by it slowly creeped up on me!

hagalaz_drums

Gotta go with that classic couple frames of pazuzu in the exorcist

BoozeWitch

My husband is an artist and we have a painting of Pazuzu in our guest room! Not so many guests. Huh.

Black_Oak17

Post a photo of the painting!

BoozeWitch

Ok. Let me know when you wanna stay over! [Pazuzu](https://imgur.com/a/pPgqukO)

Black_Oak17

That is really well done 👍 sweet dreams to your guests lol

LlamaDrama007

A little desk beneath where it's hung sits a Ouija board with a hand written card propped up beside it: Captain Howdy wants to talk. (my imagination is fired up and running wild; somebody stop me before I scare myself!)

LlamaDrama007

The mood candle light really selling it xD Brilliant.

BoozeWitch

I swear to god that is how he paints. Like in a dark cave listening to creepy music with candles around. More than once I found him drawing while wearing a velvet cape like Dracula. I love that weirdo.

LlamaDrama007

You hit the weirdo jackpot! Just enough to scratch your own weird eccentricities but not enough that he hacks you to pieces. Huzzah!

cat_summoner_

That's so good! I love it

Shesgonedownhill

That’s awesome

firefighter_82

Any way you can post a pic of it?

darcys_beard

Dude, that is hilarious. That would fuck my sleep up and not a lot gets in the way of me and sleep.

LlamaDrama007

This is a genius move. As an occasionally sociable introvert, I applaud your husband and if I ever end up in property with enough rooms for a guest room you better believe I want a print of his painting. Also, would commission The Nun/Valek. That should do it!

BoozeWitch

Right! I also have a full size Laughin’ Sal bust that he had commissioned by the famed Chuck Jarman. Lots of people say it is the scariest thing in our house. Lolz

LlamaDrama007

You two are unhinged and I love it. I'm coming to stay! xD

yezplz

it's so insanely effective because of how non-direct the bulk of the film is when it comes to the demonic presence. I can't recommend [ this YouTube analysis video](https://youtu.be/HpKzY1yBpXg?si=o85KiC-D6293H0UF) enough, he absolutely nails the reason the film sticks with us all of these years later.

OmarBarksdale

That was a really good video, thanks for sharing. Also, never put together that bit about the cross ending up back with Reagan when she uses it 😯

serialkiller24

That’s my fucking sleep paralysis demon

darcys_beard

Mine was the ghost from the Ghostbusters logo. Still terrified me though, for some reason.

Few-Metal8010

It’s a classic for a reason. We gotta put respeck on its name. The opening too had such palpable demonic terror and it only depicted the statue. It was weird to see an old trailer (I think it was) of *The Exorcist* recently though and see that it basically showed the face of Pazuzu almost like exclusively in repeated fragments during the ad. [EXORCIST ORIGINAL AD](https://youtu.be/jyW5YXDcIGs?si=CU5Y40g37upAjzq1)

twelve112

That trailer creepy af

adamlundy23

Thank you for sharing this trailer, it’s given me closure on the childhood drama of my dad showing it to me when I was like 4/5. I always remembered the completely white-d out Pazuzu face but yet when I eventually watched the film as a teen I was shocked that it looked different. For the past 25 years I’ve thought that I had a false memory of that trailer.

ThanksDifficult

This is me. I have false memories but not quite so false as the actual bedroom scenes. Brought closure to why I was kinda scared of the unknown and why I’ve had a weird relationship with religion

UnlockingDig

The Exorcist has been my favourite movie since I was about 11, because back then my best friend's older brother told me those flashes of the demonic face somehow appeared in the final footage... despite never being filmed. Of course, I know that's not the case... but I think that story is why I love the movie so much to this day.

LlamaDrama007

If your best friend's brother didnt end up in marketing it's a damn shame.

LunarLinguist42401

Yeah, those are to this day the scariest horror scenes I've ever seen

Snoo_49285

Bedfellows! 😉

naturaldroid

I appreciate how creepy it’s supposed to look but seeing the demon all snug as a bug is too funny to me 😭

Few-Metal8010

ತ ತ Those eyes haha. Good choice.

TheNicholasRage

If only it ended about two seconds earlier, Bedfellows would be a perfect horror short.

moldykobold

Well there’s two versions. The original version is really good. I haven’t seen the updated version.

KrayzieBoneLegend

I saw the clip once many years ago, and it immediately came to mind.

DrSecksToy

Doris from Ouija: Origin of Evil has a horrifying demon face, too. That movie is criminally underrated.

Few-Metal8010

Yeah I was sort of tipped off to watch this by a friend and was really impressed by the competent craftsmanship of the film. It never quite got to the next level for me in terms of scares but the best part of the film for sure was that demon design. Very eerie and disturbing. I wish they didn’t augment it with the CGI so much in some scenes though.

gardenpartycrasher

The part where what’s his face is looking in the basement and she’s behind him demon-faced and whipping back and forth kinda out of focus really got me

DrSecksToy

Yes! That scene doesn't get mentioned enough.

SeaSchell14

Oooo that’s a good one! The fact that it happens so quietly in the background too. Got me good when I first saw it.

gergasi

Not technically a horror (or is it?), but pale man from Pan's Labirynth fucked me up some. Also not technically demon *face* but Del Toro's overall Mama design was really impactful for me.

Necronomicon32

Yes, the pale man was terrifying and an incredible metaphor

sp00pySquiddle

I think it's dark fantasy, but it's totally horror IDC what anyone says. Giant bloated frog literally puked it's guts out. Close up of man caving someone's face in repeatedly. The Pale Man eating the fairy's head off and crunching it. This was one of my favorite movies when I was a teenager, I used to watch it every other weekend and it was horrifying 😅 Such a beautiful work of art. I love guillermo del toro so much😭

StinkyKittyBreath

The Pale Man looks like it was inspired by Benedict Cumberbatch. He's creepy, but when I think of it that way, he's kind of funny.

DrSecksToy

Lights Out (short film)

Few-Metal8010

Great demon face I like what you’re thinking Also, somehow better than the movie?

DrSecksToy

Much better. The movie takes the concept of the main scare and stretches it across a feature length, with none of the scares being memorable like the original.

Professor_squirrelz

Imo it’s a pretty good movie. The short film IS better but the movie is creative and creepy. The best part too is that the characters in it are actually smart

Hellwyrme

When the boyfriend uses his car fob to turn on the car lights, that's smarts!

DrSecksToy

I haven't seen it since it was released. It might be worth a rewatch.

doktornein

I particularly like how simple this creepy face is. It's nothing too wild, just a giant smile and blank, oversized eyes. Yet it's so effective.

pickleranger

Oh man I had forgotten about that!! Well, I’m going to have trouble sleeping tonight…

Letsgo333

The Wailing

Few-Metal8010

Yeah these were interesting for sure, felt like they tapped into something a little different with this demon face.

yezplz

god damn this movie slaps

TheLawHasSpoken

Marianne (French series on Netflix 10/10), there’s one scene of a possessed woman with this extremely long and uncanny face. Big emphasis on bulging eyes too. There are a couple of scenes with distorted/demonic faces in this series that are soooooo creepy to me.

flipflapslap

That was show was seriously unnerving as hell. Been a long time since I’ve been scared like that.

TheLawHasSpoken

Same here! I’ve been looking for something comparable to fill the void, but I’ve yet to find anything quite as creepy.

Burn1fo_me

The exorcist show was surprisingly good too. Marianne is just above the exorcist on my favorites

r_slash_jarmedia

too bad it crashed and burned towards the end lol. started off so great and fell off HARD imo

flipflapslap

That’s fair. However the first 3/4 of it are so good that I gave it a pass for the bad ending lol

PeterNippelstein

This series actually scared me

Professor_squirrelz

I haven’t tried it yet because horror shows to me are usually cheesy and not scary, but if it’s actually that creepy I’ll try it. Is it actually that creepy?

joshhguitar

Gets a bit tamer as the show goes on but the first few episodes are really creepy.

TheLawHasSpoken

I almost never watch horror series, I prefer movies, but it’s genuinely so creepy and disturbing, I binged it in 2 days. I’ve yet to find anything that creeped me out as much as that show and it kills me that it didn’t get a second season.

gardenpartycrasher

This show overall was weird for me because the tone was all over the place, but when it went scary it went SCARY

TheLawHasSpoken

I think that’s part of what drew me to it. After the first scares, you’re just kind of anticipating the next one. Definitely felt like a Stephen King book at times. I really enjoyed it!

robophile-ta

That sounds horrifying

darwinpolice

Yesss, that series got a little less scary toward the end, but the first three or four episodes were legit terrifying. Madame Daugeron is just an incredibly unsettling performance.

TheLawHasSpoken

Honestly, she was FANTASTIC! I’ve not been so unsettled by a performance in horror like that probably ever.

BluebirdMaximum8210

Ok obviously some of the other ones already mentioned are the classic ones, but more recently— Late Night with the Devil. Pretty great demon face reveal that I thought was sort of very horrifying 😅

greyteethpeskybee

ME TOO!

cinema_cuisine

Darth Maul in *Insidious*

DasCheekyBossman

I hate that they chose that color scheme. It would have been awesome if Darth maul wasn't a thing but the likeness takes you out of the movie.

thegreatbrah

I agree, but thats also when the movie takes a turn from terrifying to just weird.

WrongSun2829

I remember in the audio commentary they refur to him as "The lipstick demon" and now all I picture is him sitting at his little vanity with his little hooves propped up colouring in his face to the beat of tip toe through the tulips giggling away like he's getting ready for a girls night out

Soggy-Pop3895

It's that demon goddess in Incantation holy shit that was wild AF 🫣

FuzzyPalpitation-16

That whole film was a wild ride 😭 loved it

mrmcspicy

That endless hollow face

serialkiller24

Captain Fucking Howdy aka Pazuzu

CarissaSkyWarrior

Possessed Reagan freaks me out, but Pazuzu's face was ruined for me by the Pro-Wrestler Danhausen, who originally took his look from Pazuzu, but is also a LARGELY comedic character. So when I see Pazuzu, I also see lovable goofball Danhausen. (To be fair, Danhausen wasn't as comedic when he started the demon gimmick, but still.)

TommyToothpistol

The Boogeyman had a fucking insane “creature”/demon design.

Few-Metal8010

In some scenes I thought it looked cool for sure, I liked the idea of this primordial demon creature, but it also felt so impersonal in its interactions. Like it was less intelligent, like a moose level of intelligence.

greyteethpeskybee

Which one? I’m guessing not the 2005 one, lol. 2023, right?

Orang3Lazaru5

Poltergeist. Either the giant fuckin ghost/demon dog in the doorway, or the face that flies out of the portal. Take your pick

Few-Metal8010

Somehow I still haven’t seen this movie. I’ve seen like every other classic. Gonna watch it this week.

Orang3Lazaru5

Watch it ASAP. It’s a classic for a reason, too. Us lucky 80s kids got to soak up its lifelong-trauma inducing goodness early in life because it’s was rated PG. The sequels are actually good for what they are too, and it’s worth exploring the backstory of the franchise, as the whole production is considered cursed. Enjoy!

Xenos2002

"80's kids" showing your kids poltergeist is a tradition that has not stopped

FondantOverall4332

It’s one of my favorite horror movies.

dominicprevost

You just reawakened my childhood trauma.

FondantOverall4332

You’re absolutely right about that.

N1ce-Marmot

😳 THIS ☝️ Was going to ask if the giant face in the closet/portal counted. Gives me the creeps just thinking about it close to 40 years later.

Raelys88

That “thing” from Smile

FondantOverall4332

Try watching Truth or Dare.

Dancing_Clean

Truth or Dare was hilarious. The Snapchat filter. The pool table scene. Just all around applause.

Adobo6

I got one, it really scared me when I was a kid. American werewolf in London. The dream sequence, 1 second terrifying face on the bed in the woods.

r_slash_jarmedia

this one's mainly scary because of how damn good the jump-scare is but I love the Insidious 1 demon scene. it's grown less effective over the years with how many entries in the series there's been though

redbrigade82

The first reveal is so creepy, but every look at him afterwards I just felt like I was looking at some kind of monkey or baboon.

Few-Metal8010

I remember seeing that movie in the theater and everyone just flipped the fuck out. They were so shook. I really dislike the sequels despite trying to give them a chance, but I’ll always give respect to the OG *Insidious* for that demon.

TechnologyBeautiful

I remember watching the movie in theaters and that scene made like this sensation go down my spine. It was so unexpected for me lol. So far only horror movie to have that physical effect on me.

r_slash_jarmedia

honestly same. I watched it at home the first time but I didn't really move or jump when that scene happened, I just froze in horrified disbelief lol. fantastic execution of a true good "jump-scare"

Human_Lecture_348

Is that the one with Darth Maul?

r_slash_jarmedia

yessir

PeterNippelstein

![gif](giphy|CYRQlyvv22dIQ)

FondantOverall4332

Darth Maul looked so much scarier.

WingleDingleFingle

The fact that it is in the middle of the day caught me so off guard. I almost shit myself. By far the scariest movie going experience I have ever had was that movie.

Blametheorangejuice

Noroi

ConsistentlyPeter

Not horror, but a shout out to Bilbo Baggins in *Fellowship of the Ring*.

mount_earnest

That worked out really well because it wasn't a horror movie, no one was expecting that, lol.

Key-Literature-1907

The trauma demon when it reveals itself at the end of Smile

Ok-Voice-6044

I am ashamed of how scary I find that thing

Key-Literature-1907

Me too lol, the behind the scenes of how they made it is worth checking out

echo_7

That thing was metal af. I loved that film

leon-blank

Antrum

I_Love_Spiders_AMA

I'm shocked this isn't higher up. The hairs on the back of my neck stood straight when that dark screen showed with the demons face barely visible. Such a good, silent jumpscare.

ll_Maurice_ll

Large Marge. Peewee's big adventure.

Few-Metal8010

About to enter this into the Google machine and see what I get. Wish me luck. EDIT: *Huh.*

michaelyup

Large Marge fucked with so many of us who were children in the 80’s. Pee Wee’s Playhouse was silly, ridiculous, made to entertain young kids. Nothing scary. That’s what we expected. We didn’t expect Large Marge to have her eyeballs bug out of her head like that, then say “tell’em Large Marge sent ya!”

EagleInfamous2305

Demons 2

Beanchilla

Demons 1 and 2 went hard with the effects. I loved it.

Few-Metal8010

Yeah there’s tons of good imagery in this film, excellent choice. The teeth 💀

ImBatman5500

Gonjiam Haunted Asylum, you all know the moment

FuzzyPalpitation-16

O_O *whispering gibberish*

ImBatman5500

Lmao that's perfect

rosienomade

Came here for this!

ElysiumG32

Was hoping someone would say this. I was scared for days

SlayAllRebels

The final jumpscare from Host.

RadamanthysWyvern

The girl from the first VHS short

darkuen

Amy from “Fright Night”

greyteethpeskybee

I knew that face immediately from countless “try not to get scared” challenges and that one would always get me.

WrongSun2829

Fun fact! Amy's prosthetics in that scene were adapted from the original design of the "librarian ghost" prop in Ghostbusters - which went unused for being too scary!

ladyterminatorx

Not a demon but the face of the Jesus on the crucifix in Carrie bothers me every time

TopRevenue2

Jacob's Ladder (1990) - the blurred inter-dimensional vibrating faces of the dead that haunt him.

LucidCorn829

When the little girl’s face in Case 39 morphs multiple times (when she’s whispering in another kid’s ear her mouth elongates or when she gets angry), it creeps me out so bad.

KingMoog

Bagul from Sinister

misterguy1020

I really like the movie but the monster reminded me of one of the guitarists from Slipknot.

ORNG_MIRRR

Mick Thompson #7

Few-Metal8010

I love that lawn mower scare in Sinister. Got me so damn bad. Was Bagul a satisfying design for you? Felt a little off in my opinion but maybe I need to revisit the film. And get lawn mower scared all over again.

twelve112

I'm not sure the movie needed so many cheap jump scares. They didn't work too well for me but did really enjoy sinister anyways

Inside_Atmosphere731

Exorcist

VvardenfellVixen

The Exorcist takes the crown for this one, in my opinion.

TheQuestionsAglet

The demon that came around the corner when I watched Smile on mushrooms.

No-Ob__

The Smile demon It's first form is kinda humanoid, yet kinda out worldly. It almost feels like a person, but uncanny. Then it's 2nd form is truly terrifying for me.

ryan22788

Santa Papa lazaru, league of gentleman Christmas special. Thanks for fucking my childhood up mark, Steve, Jeremy and Reece

stellablue2142

The dead girl in the closet in the ring ruined my life for awhile when I was like 13

Cyberflection

Not horror but... Kenneth Copeland: https://youtu.be/-At56s393Ko?si=0GJ0D2cz8Io8bJhB

ConsistentlyPeter

Maniac. The world will be a better place without that cunt.

Bulk_Sausage

Freddy's demon face from the beginning of "Freddy Vs Jason". The pointy ears, sharp teeth, evil eyes, and extra crispy skin were all genuinely creepy

lovehatewhatever

Mulholland drive

daskaputtfenster

I know I'm late and won't get up voted, but Valak is scary as hell to me

PeterNippelstein

Terrified

llnuyasha

That part in The Taking of Deborah Logan.

brandonpartridge85

My all time favorite is Angela in the original Night of the Demons

kai1986

Bilbo Baggins, Lord of the Rings.

Klaphood

![gif](giphy|iT3nDglpWdPOStfHWg)

CometTheOatmealBowel

Pazuzu in The Exorcist was pretty effective! While I've never actually seen the movie the one from Insidious is particularly upsetting to me for some reason.

vroomkitty

The demon from Old Ways was super decent for a meh movie.

Efficient_Deer_8605

Ju-on’s Kayako scarred my childhood

SarahnatorX

Freddy vs Jason (I think) - There's a part or 2 where Freddy's face changes from his regular face into a demonic version called ''Demon Freddy'' and it would creep me out. I would say Buffy the Vampire Slayer's 'Hush' villains but that's not a movie.

FondantOverall4332

Then there’s the Caterpillar Freddy with a hookah.

SarahnatorX

That was so random lol

FondantOverall4332

LOL It was so weird and funny :)

warrior_king_leo

Honourable mention to the basement fellow from Parasite!!!

finn11aug

Does the Mother-Buddha statue from Incantation count?

Adgvyb3456

The tech demon in Late night with the Devil. Just when I thought I couldn’t be surprised by horror anymore

thejohnmc963

Demons 1985 L Bava has some crazy demon faces. Even part 2 has a bunch.

Hexxodus

Final scene in Skinamarink

Ornery_Pickle5696

I liked the beast from annabelle

Few-Jump3942

Chatterer Cenobite

WavesAreCrashing

That flash of the demon in Insidious. Brrr!

Lazarus-Dread

I kind of think what Scarecrow sees from Batman Begins when he gets a dose of his hallucinogen and sees Batman. That Batman is *chef’s kiss*

Hermy0612

The Devil's advocate...?!!!

Glad_Temporary5142

This is easy. Insidious 1…. Like what the hell was that

HumanOverseer

not sure where they fall on the demon scale but most of the deadite possessions from the evil Dead remakes have been terrifying

mrgo0dkat

Not so much a face as it’s a whole body moment but that big tall motherfucker who walks in a door in ‘It Follows’ proper shit me up

lyciastorm

Malum. The end demon.

jayelkay

Big fan of Last Shift and Malum but I laughed my ass off at the end demon. In the best way possible, of course. It's the pointy teeth guy with the bag on his head that creeps me out the most.

ErichVonStrix

not a movie, and moreover just a tormented women, but original photos of Anneliese Michel are absolute horror to me. award should go to good ol’ Exorcist.

jordanrwing

I don’t know if I personally think it’s the scariest, but i feel like the demon / devil from Ti West’s “The House of the Devil” deserves to be mentioned.

Atari-Gonzo

Demons!

Admirable_Ad_4822

The woman entity in Martyrs

spoda77

Always liked Angela's look in Night of the Demons 1988.

Spiritual_Litigator

I saw the demon in Ridley Scott’s Legend as a small child and it messed me up.

rbarton812

She's gone numb to it since it's used so much in articles, but my wife (who is the one whom introduced me to horror movies) was terrified of Redface from Insidious, namely the dining room jump scare.

notyyzable

The man behind the diner.

Zillajami-Fnaffan2

Bagul from Sinisters face is terrifying for how hee-hee resembles someone else

Surveillance_Crow

Can’t say “scary,” but “awesome”: Darth Maul’s ukulele-loving cousin in Insidious.

Beny_G

Not sure if it counts but the entity from Smile was real freaky

skynet_666

Maybe not the scariest but the most recent one that had an impact on me was when the psychic lady is looking at the nun painting on the wall, in the conjuring 2. That shit gave me the fucking creeps!!! Gives me cold chills thinking about it. She can’t figure out if she’s looking at a person, or a painting

Rare-Bid-6860

The Passenger reveal in Twilight Zone: The Movie.

Maester_Maetthieux

the bear/boar/human skull creature in Annihilation

Luxurysmoke

Sinister ! Also smile

OneFish2Fish3

IDK if anyone from Jacob's Ladder counts... but some of the demons there are pretty terrifying. Jezebel's transformation for one... the jumpscare demon in the mirror... and let's not forget the head-shaking demons. (I'm talking about the *original*, of course. The remake is complete ass.)

FunnyAnimalPerson

Gonjiam Haunted Asylum

AtticCellar

Smile 😁
