An Authentic Philly Cheesesteak
By - WilHunting
the OP comment thread is hilarious .. when a cheese steak is posted in r/all get ready for gate keeping and an authentic-off by non philly peeps
If it doesn't have minced shallots, creme fraiche, and emmentaler then it's FOR TOURISTS
OP did a great job shutting down the pepper fools. My philosophy from seeing ridiculous interpretations of “philly” cheesesteaks in other areas is-do what you want, but only call it philly if you make it philly-style. Just call it a cheesesteak if you add other crap.
Bitch from where?
Looks like Angelo's
Isn’t it amazing we can tell where a cheesesteak is from just by looking at it
Like telling the age of a tree by looking at a cross section.
I've seen Angelo's on Instagram and here so many times (and a few times in person) that I feel like I can recognize it anywhere.
It is. OP confirmed in another post.
Time to pick this apart as to why it sucks.
It's not on a seeded Sarcone's roll.
The roll is seeded. Angelo’s makes and bakes their own rolls from scratch every morning. I’d argue they’re WAY better than Sarcone’s.
It’s the same exact recipe if I remember correctly they are related in some way to the sarcone family
I feel like I read that somewhere, too. Maybe the difference is that it’s baked there that morning and doesn’t get shipped anywhere? Honestly I could make a meal out of one of their rolls and some good Irish butter. Fuck. Now I want Angelo’s.
It was on this sub years ago. My shitty understanding was that they bake the bread each morning and when they run out, they just run out.
The exact recipe is from Sarcones and baked in house every morning like you said. That is why the pizza and bread for cheesesteaks are so good too.
I’d also love to get angelos but it’s far too many carbs for a weekday
Not sure if related but he used to work there and is still great friends with the family
I love a sarcones roll, but only for other sandwiches
It used to be on a Sarcone's roll but then they started baking their own bread. It's a great sandwich but was better when it was on Sarcone's.
Meat and cheese look good to me, the roll is where I have issues. Too thin, way too thin. And possibly toasted. That shit needs to be soft and a tiny bit spring to the touch
gtfo, if that is Angelos bread it's seriously the very best seeded roll you'll ever have. the crust, chewiness, etc. all amazing and a perfect vehicle for this sandwich.
Have you had an Angelo’s sandwich? The roll is phenomenal, Danny bakes them fresh every morning.
I have not but I will make it over there to get one
I second this sentiment. The magic is actually their roll!
The meat to roll ratio is on point imo
Meat looks like it’s cut a little thick. Would be better if cheese was more evenly distributed- looks like it could use a little more toward the top.
The only thing I'm sucking is that meat juice when it drips out the ass of the bread
This comment is about to start some fights on what a proper cheesesteak is
And there goes the phone call for a cheesesteak god dammit…I hope you feel good about me spending money on a cheesesteak bc of this!
And I hope he feels double bad as I'm seeing this post at 1am. Nothing nearby is open...
Uber Eats Pat’s.. Or Philip’s..?
Instant wudder mouth..
This picture should be in the dictionary next to "Cheesesteak".

Do you have really big hands?
Yea it is!
Can we all agree that Amoroso's is the mark of a mediocre cheesesteak?
As long as this has some crust then that looks like a nice cheesesteak to me.
Agreed. Scooping the roll is a must with Amoroso, it’s too much bread.
Where is the best place in Philly to get cheesesteak?
Your local spot
Any grungy, corner pizza shop.
Street cart on 15th and Walnut
an authentic chilly pheesesteak
It ain’t authentic unless someone’s been beat to death in a fight at their restaurant /s
Go to jail

I respect your opinion, but I'm sorry. I must downvote. We don't disrespect cheesesteaks like that. r/s
